The Archaeological Museum of Chiavari is located on the ground floor of Palazzo Rocca, in the former stables, now transformed into the perfect setting to tell millennia of history. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the origins of the territory, discovering artifacts that reveal the lives of the area’s ancient inhabitants.
Among the most significant exhibits are the remains of an ancient Bronze Age harbor and the monumental necropolis of the Early Iron Age, featuring “box” cremation tombs and funerary objects. These artifacts provide a unique glimpse into the ritual practices and development of prehistoric communities in the Chiavari area.
In 2021, the museum underwent a complete renovation, with an exhibition design that begins with the history of the territory and the use of local raw materials. The exhibition path allows visitors to understand how humans interacted with the landscape and natural resources, creating a deep connection between the community and its environment.
The journey concludes with artifacts from Roman and medieval times, connecting them to the history of Chiavari and its transformations over the centuries. Each object and relic becomes part of a narrative that combines archaeology, daily life, and the historical memory of the territory.
