Description

The Via dell’olio e della castagna itinerary offers a fascinating journey through the hills and woods surrounding Lavagna, rich in history, nature and breathtaking views. Here is a detailed description of the route:

 

Departure from the center of Lavagna

The excursion starts from the center of Lavagna, following the San Bernardo climb next to the Fravega stream and the red cross trail sign. This part of the route crosses the Berissi Valley, an area full of evidence of past peasant life, including remains of water distribution works used to push the wheels of the millstones and mills.

 

Location Chighina and climb towards Crocetta

Once you arrive at Località Chighina along Via dei Mulini, continue climbing towards the hamlet of Crocetta following the solid red square trail sign. This stretch offers a variable view ranging from olive groves to chestnut trees along the road to Sorlana.

 

Forest and forest of Monte Costello

After Sorlana, the route enters the woods up to the Selva del Monte Costello along an ancient path that led to Villa Loto. From here you can admire expansive views of the sea and internal valleys, also offering grassy areas ideal for a picnic.

 

Sant’Anna Cliffs and View of the Gulf

Continuing from the meadows towards the Sant’Anna cliffs, follow the crossed out circle trail sign. The route initially crosses a wooded area and then crosses a rocky ridge with low shrubby vegetation, offering splendid views of the Gulf of Tigullio.

 

Church of Sant’Anna and Arrival in Cavi Borgo

Having reached the ruins of the church of Sant’Anna, positioned on a sheer cliff, continue westwards following the trail sign with overlapping white and red horizontal bars up to Cavi Borgo.

 

From Cavi Borgo to Santa Giulia Centaura and back to Lavagna

After a visit to the characteristic village of Cavi Borgo, take the Paradiso path which leads to the hamlet of Santa Giulia Centaura. From here, a picturesque mule track among the olive trees finally takes you back to the center of Lavagna.
