Casun du Stecca: A Symbol of the Ligurian Resistance
The “Casun du Stecca” stands as a sacred site of the Resistance in Liguria. Located in the territory of San Colombano Certenoli, the farmhouse bears witness to dramatic events of World War II and serves as a symbol of the partisan struggle against the Nazi-fascist occupation.
Historical Context: Devastation and Massacres
The historical significance of the site is closely linked to the devastation of Cichero, carried out by Nazi-fascist forces on July 17, 1944, and the Gnorecco massacre. These tragic events led the Municipality of San Colombano Certenoli to be awarded the War Cross for Military Valor, recognizing the heroism of its citizens and the armed and civil resistance in the inland valleys.
Refuge of Partisan Commanders
The farmhouse also served a symbolic and operational role: it was here that Bisagno, Marzo, and Ricci, the three commanders who organized the partisan struggle in the mountains and surrounding valleys, met. In October 1943, when their residence at Castello di Favale (hosted by the Protestant and republican Leone Garbarino) became unsafe, they took refuge at Casun du Stecca.
Restoring Memory
After a period of abandonment, the Casun du Stecca is now entering a new phase of restoration and maintenance, highlighting its historical and symbolic importance. The farmhouse is more than a building—it is a living site of memory, a testimony to the courage of the partisans and their fight for freedom.
