On a plateau stretching between Case Dorbora and Monte Pezze lies the archaeological site of Pian dei Costi, uncovered through an excavation campaign revealing life in a settlement that developed around the 15th century. At that time, the area was a strategic stop for trade and exchanges along the routes connecting valleys and villages.
The excavated houses are rectangular, single-story buildings with entrances on one of the short sides. In one building, two hearths were found, indicating activities related to fire use or baking, while another building, with a beaten-earth floor, a large threshold made of limestone slabs, and a ramp, suggests it was used for livestock stabling.
The excavation yielded significant quantities of ceramics, confirming the site’s use until the mid-18th century. Among the most notable finds are a women’s rosary made of glass and bone beads and a small frame, likely intended for sacred images, offering glimpses into the daily and spiritual life of the inhabitants.
After the settlement was abandoned, the Pian dei Costi area was converted to chestnut cultivation, transforming the landscape from a lively village to agricultural land, while leaving behind precious traces of medieval and early modern life in the Ligurian mountains.
