Bargone Mine

A Deposit on the Outskirts of Bargone

Just a short distance from the village of Bargone, almost hidden within the folds of the landscape, lies a small iron-copper deposit whose story is closely intertwined with the region’s mining industry. Despite its modest size, it played a meaningful role: beneath this ground ran mineral veins that, between the 19th and early 20th centuries, fueled economic hopes and entrepreneurial ventures in a territory shaped by mining labor.

Lorenzo Gardella and the Società Ligure Ramifera

The extraction history of this site overlaps with that of the nearby Miniera della Gallinaria, sharing both key figures and business strategies. Among them stands Lorenzo Gardella, founder of the Società Ligure Ramifera, which managed the ore and processed it at the nearby plant in Bargonasco. Through this network of tunnels, facilities, and private initiatives, a portrait emerges of an industrious Liguria—where even a small deposit could become a vital piece in a broader industrial mosaic.
