In the area of Val di Spine, along the left bank of the Bargonasco River, traces of ancient mining activity can still be observed. Some date back to the nineteenth century, while others suggest even older workings. This landscape tells the long story of mineral exploration, evidenced by tunnels and shafts carved deep into the mountains.
According to ISSEL in 1879, significant research was carried out here by a Genoese company. He describes a winding tunnel, about 50 centimeters high and wide, extending several dozen meters, clearly created to explore small mineral veins visible on the surface. Excavated without the use of blasting powder, the tunnel appears extremely old, hinting at mining activity that predates the nineteenth century.
These tunnels are not only technical relics but also witnesses to the industrial and artisanal history of the region. They preserve valuable information on ancient exploration techniques and the lives of miners who shaped the Bargonasco mountains, offering today an important opportunity for study and cultural valorization.
