Periglacial Morphologies of Lake delle Lame

Lake delle Lame: A Glacial Jewel of the Aveto

At over a thousand meters above sea level, at the foot of Monte Aiona, in the heart of the Parco Naturale Regionale dell’Aveto, lies Lake delle Lame. It is one of the very few glacial lakes in Liguria, along with the nearby Laghi delle Agoraie. A place where water, sky, and mountains blend into a landscape of rare beauty.

A Wetland of Great Natural Value

The lake is part of a wetland area of significant environmental importance, freely accessible to visitors. From here, several hiking trails of varying difficulty branch out, allowing exploration of forests, high-altitude meadows, and scenic ridges, making the site ideal for hikers and families alike.

Bosco delle Lame: Liguria’s Richest Mesolithic Site

Just above the lake, on a ridge between Monte degli Abeti and Pian delle Moglie, lies Bosco delle Lame. Numerous surface artifacts have been discovered across this area: about a thousand date back to the Mesolithic, alongside occasional traces from the Early Neolithic and the Copper/Bronze Age. With 240 nuclei and around 1,200 artifacts, the site represents the most important Mesolithic complex known in Liguria.

A Seasonal Camp Between Nature and Hunting

The area was likely occupied during the good season by entire human groups carrying out daily activities. From Bosco delle Lame, hunting excursions would depart toward the surrounding peaks, in an environment that still today preserves the wild charm of high-altitude landscapes.
