From Primeval Forests to Human Activities
The exhibition illustrates the evolution of the woodland landscape, from primeval forests to the rational exploitation of timber. Wood was essential for shipbuilding, charcoal production, and rural construction. Through informative panels and thematic displays, the museum highlights the main forest species, with particular attention to the beech forests and fir groves, explaining the importance of forest biodiversity in maintaining hydrogeological balance.
Forest Trades and Traditional Tools
A significant section is dedicated to forest trades, now largely disappeared or deeply transformed: lumberjacks, charcoal burners, and sawyers. Visitors can explore traditional tools and techniques for cutting and transporting timber, as well as the complex structure of charcoal pits, used to turn wood into charcoal on site. These exhibits allow a deeper understanding of the relationship between human labor and sustainable forest management.
The Forest as a Living Ecosystem
The museum also serves as an educational center, offering ways to interpret the signs left by humans in the forest, such as ancient charcoal clearings or dry stone walls, while raising awareness about sustainable management and ecosystem protection.
