In the heart of Val d’Aveto, the Rezzoaglio Visitor Center serves as a bridge between the Park and the local community, offering direct contact with the nature and geological history of the area. The exhibition uses models and informational panels to explain the formation of the Ligurian Apennines, the unique local rock formations, and the habitats that host protected species, making the complexity of this mountainous environment accessible to all visitors.
One of the center’s most captivating features is the “night corridor”, a sensory installation that allows visitors to hear the calls of wild animals and glimpse their silhouettes in the dark. This immersive experience brings the local wildlife to life, making the delicate balance between humans and nature tangible.
A special section is dedicated to the wolf, a “satellite” exhibition of the Rondanina Wolf Museum, which explores the predator’s biology and monitoring techniques. Particular attention is given to the coexistence between wolves and livestock, illustrating protection systems for herds as a concrete example of sustainable land management.
The center also houses a remarkable artifact: a subfossil white fir trunk around 4,000 years old, recovered during excavations at the Mogge di Ertola site. Displayed in a dedicated case, the trunk testifies to the valley’s long natural history, linking the present to ancient eras.
The exhibition concludes by examining how humans have shaped the landscape through agriculture and forest use. In addition to the exhibition halls, the center provides maps and technical information on hiking trails to the peaks and glacial lakes, equipping visitors with the tools for a mindful exploration of the territory and its delicate ecological balance.
