Seabeds of Punta di Moneglia

Punta Moneglia, a Timeless Corner of the Coast

On the eastern tip of Monte Moneglia lies Punta Moneglia, a promontory overlooking the coast between Riva Trigoso and Moneglia. Although the marked trail does not reach the exact tip, it leads to a small cove slightly to the west, at the mouth of the Valletta, offering a privileged vantage point over a spectacular and evocative stretch of coastline.

The Magic of the Sandstone Coast

This coastal sector is characterized by huge sub-vertical layers of sandstone jutting into the sea, forming natural piers separated by miniature fjords. Walking among these rocks feels like stepping into a landscape shaped by time and the sea, where every ridge tells millions of years of geological history and erosion. The view of the fjords and coves creates a dramatic effect that can captivate every hiker.

Biodiversity Between Land and Sea

The stretch of coast between Riva Trigoso and Moneglia is part of a Marine Site of Community Importance (SIC) and the Natura 2000 network, highlighting its environmental significance. Here, relic patches of Posidonia seagrass survive—once much more extensive—alongside a variety of marine and terrestrial habitats, making Punta Moneglia a place of high ecological value. The combination of rock, water, and biodiversity makes this promontory not only a breathtaking viewpoint but also a small natural sanctuary.
