On the shores of lago di Giacopiane, surface surveys have uncovered prehistoric lithic artifacts, silent witnesses to the use of this area during prehistory. Each stone fragment tells stories of ancient hunters and gatherers moving along the lake’s shores, making use of natural resources for survival.
During maintenance work on the dam, which required temporarily draining the lake, a small stratigraphic survey—still unpublished—was conducted. The materials recovered confirm that the area was inhabited or frequented from the Upper Paleolithic to the Mesolithic, showing continuity in the use of the territory and the strategic importance of the lake’s shores for prehistoric communities.
The artifacts found at Lake Giacopiane are more than objects: they are traces of daily life, hunting and working tools, witnesses to the millennia-long relationship between humans and their environment. Examining these stones allows us to connect with a history spanning thousands of years, shaped by movement, survival, and adaptation to the changing lakeside landscape.
