At the slopes of Monte Zatta stretches a vast area where complex geological formations have given rise to numerous yet modest copper occurrences. At first glance, the landscape appears quiet and natural; yet beneath the surface lies a network of small mineral veins that for decades attracted local prospectors and entrepreneurs.
Scattered across the slopes are numerous entrances to underground chambers—subtle openings, sometimes barely visible, leading to tunnels generally of limited extent. Not grand engineering works, but targeted excavations, often adapted to the terrain and the consistency of the copper veins. Each entrance represents an effort to access a valuable resource in a context where mineral wealth was fragmented and unevenly distributed.
Over time, many local entrepreneurial initiatives—often single-person operations—succeeded one another, driven more by individual initiative than by large capital. However, little to no documentation remains of this industrious period. Today, the memory of the area is preserved primarily through the physical traces scattered across the terrain: entrances, small excavation fronts, and marks that tell a diffuse, almost anonymous story, yet one deeply rooted in the enduring relationship between humans and the mountain.
