Casa Carbone
Casa Carbone is one of the most renowned and appreciated museums in all of Liguria.
This charming residence preserves a rich collection of art objects, ceramics, furnishings typical of the fin-de-siècle period, paintings from the 17th century Ligurian school and lively floors.
A typical Ligurian building from the 19th century, Casa Carbone faithfully and warmly transmits the domestic atmosphere and taste for living typical of the period between the 19th and 20th centuries.
A visit to this house museum is an experience that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the history and culture of the region, as well as offering a fascinating look at how people lived and furnished in those bygone years.
Inherited by the FAI from the brothers Emanuele and Syria Carbone, the last inhabitants and owners, Casa Carbone is an extraordinary house-museum where each object tells a story, representing daily gestures and habits, evidence of domestic life and family history. Even today it is possible to admire the original linens, dinner sets, kitchen utensils, books and furnishings, as well as fans and jewellery.
Furthermore, the house houses a varied collection of objects that reflect the tastes and passions of its inhabitants, from refined nineteenth-century scientific instruments to wooden puppets depicting characters from Italian comedies and fairy tales, made with great skill and witty irony by Emanuele Carbone himself . Another point of interest is the valuable collection of paintings, mainly works by artists of the Genoese school of the 16th and 17th centuries. Among the most illustrious names stand out Bernardo Castello, Giovanni Battista Paggi, Giovanni Andrea De Ferrari, Anton Maria Vassallo and Gio Enrico Vaymer, the latter known for his magnificent “Portrait of a Magistrate”.
The garden, which overlooks the interior of Casa Carbone, is an oasis of tranquility enriched by camellias, hydrangeas of ancient varieties and climbing plants on the perimeter walls, adding further charm to this wonderful home.
