Villa Spinola Grimaldi

Among the ancient homes that preserve the deeds of noble families, the magnificent Villa Spinola-Grimaldi stands out, an architectural jewel built way back in 1604 by the Spinola family. Over the centuries, this residence has changed owners several times, always maintaining its aura of nobility and prestige intact.

History and Transformations

Over time, Villa Spinola-Grimaldi has experienced multiple transformations, adapting to the historical and social changes of the region. From the noble residence of the Spinola family, it passed under the dominion of the Grimaldis and subsequently of the Pallavicini, remaining a symbol of power and refinement. The villa hosted fleeing princes during tumultuous times, such as Prince Francis II of the Two Sicilies and Maria Sofia of Bavaria. However, the fate of the villa took a significant turn in 1979, when the Municipality of Lavagna acquired the area. Deciding to enhance this historical heritage, the municipality transformed Villa Spinola-Grimaldi into a large public park, thus creating an important green oasis in the heart of the city.

The Villa Today

Today, Villa Spinola-Grimaldi is much more than a historic residence. Located in the Tigullio Park, it is surrounded by a lush natural environment and important public sports facilities, such as swimming pools, basketball and tennis courts. This green environment is not only a place for recreation, but is also the hub of excellent professional education. It is in fact the seat of the Italian Academy of Mercantile Navy – Tourism of the Sea, together with the Academy of Tourism. These institutions bring prestige to Lavagna thanks to their high level of training in the maritime and tourism sectors, preparing young people of all ages for successful careers in these industries vital to the local economy.

A Symbol of Community and Hope

Tigullio Park and Villa Spinola-Grimaldi have become a symbol of community and growth for Lavagna. This space not only preserves the history of the region, but also offers new educational and sporting opportunities for future generations. It is a place where history intertwines with the present, creating a promising future for the city and its inhabitants.

In conclusion, Villa Spinola-Grimaldi represents a perfect example of how historical heritage can be transformed into a driver of cultural, educational and community development. With its mix of history, nature and education, this century-old home continues to illuminate Lavagna’s path to a bright future.
