Porticato Brignardello

The Porticato Brignardello is a symbol of generosity and vision, born from the desire of Nicola Brignardello, a wealthy citizen whose legendary purpose gave life to a timeless work. Located in Lavagna, this portico represents a tangible connection between the past and present of the city.

Origins and History

The story tells of a man determined to create a passage that would allow him to reach the cemetery without having to cross the sight of St. Stephen’s Basilica. With this intent, Brignardello allocated a significant part of his assets, accumulated far from the Ligurian coasts, for the construction of a portico and a terrace above, intended for public use.

Construction and Architecture

Between 1894 and 1898, the work took shape, becoming a symbol of connection between past and present. With one entrance to the south and two to the east, the portico offers a refuge from the heat of the summer sun and a place for the community to reflect and meet. The structure, characterized by stone columns, is an example of functional and aesthetic architecture.

View from Piazza Marconi

The frontal view of the Brignardello Portico from Piazza Marconi is fascinating. From this perspective, one can appreciate the harmony of its construction and the attention to detail, which reflect respect for tradition and innovation. The square itself, with its liveliness and its continuous flow of people, is the perfect context for this monument, making it an integral part of the daily life of the city.

Function and Use

In addition to its original function, today the portico space is a pulsating place of culture and creativity. Among its columns, cultural events of all kinds take place: concerts that resonate in the air, theatrical performances that enchant the public, exhibitions that open windows on art and innovation, and food and wine events that delight the palate.

A Place of Meeting and Creativity

Nicola Brignardello’s portico continues to live and breathe, a silent witness to the events of the city and the creative fervor of its people. A place where the past mixes with the present, and the sound of laughter and applause resonates within the stone walls, carrying on the rich cultural heritage of Lavagna.

In conclusion, the Porticato Brignardello is not only an architectural monument, but also a vital center of cultural and social activities. His presence continues to inspire and uplift the community, representing a bridge between generations and an enduring symbol of Nicola Brignardello’s generosity and vision.
