The church was elevated to parish status in 1315, during the lordship of the Doria family, placing the building at the heart of the area’s medieval history. The Arrival of Our Lady of Guadalupe

According to historical sources, the devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe reached Italy through the work of the Jesuit Fathers. Local tradition enriches this account with a deeply human story: in 1802, Antonio Domenico Rossi, a young man from Santo Stefano d’Aveto who was studying at the Jesuit institute in Piacenza, returned to his native village carrying with him an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. That simple gesture marked the beginning of a devotion destined to take deep root in the territory.

A Devotion Spanning More Than a Century

The story of the devotion and dedication to Our Lady of Guadalupe is long and complex, unfolding from the early nineteenth century to the second half of the twentieth century. During this period, Our Lady of Guadalupe was proclaimed the principal patroness of the valley, strengthening an ever-growing spiritual bond with the local community. This path of faith reached its culmination in 1972, when the designation of the church as a sanctuary was officially recognized, sealing centuries of devotion, memory, and shared tradition.
