The church with the adjoining convent, now converted into residential housing, was built for the Capuchins around 1640. However, the complex proved unsuitable due to its insufficiently isolated location, and in 1686 the entire building was sold to the Compagnia di San Pietro in Vincoli, a society of secular priests founded in 1654.
Since 1977, the church has been the home of the Confraternity of Santa Caterina, previously owners of the eponymous oratory on the peninsula, which was destroyed during the 1944 bombings. The structure consists of a single nave covered by a barrel vault, with side chapels, offering a compact and evocative space for prayer and devotion.
Over the centuries, the church suffered significant damage during the Napoleonic period and in the years that followed. After World War II, a patient and ongoing restoration process began, aimed at preserving both the decorative elements and the works of art within. Today, the church houses two artistic collections: those acquired and commissioned over the years by the Compagnia di San Pietro in Vincoli and those belonging to the Confraternity of Santa Caterina.
