Chapel of San Giacomo
Located on the mountain of the same name, at an altitude of 538 metres, stands the church of S. Giacomo: a spiritual beacon that dominates a breathtaking panorama that ranges from the Apennines to the Mediterranean, over the rooftops of Chiavari and Lavagna. Dedicated to the Apostle St. James, this church was built from scratch to replace an older building dating back to 1630, which was now too narrow to accommodate the faithful.
A Welcoming Entrance and the Sailing Bell Tower
On the facade side of the church, a welcoming portico invites visitors to cross the threshold of the sacred building. Above it, a small bell tower stands proudly, announcing the divine presence with its sound. This bell tower, with its simple elegance, adds a touch of spirituality and tradition to the landscape.
The Fresco of the Madonna with Child and Saints
Above the main entrance, a splendid fresco captures the gaze of visitors. Depicting the Madonna and Child and a group of saints – James, Cornelius, John the Baptist, Victoria, Cyprian and Charles Borromeo – the fresco emanates a divine light, blessing those who approach with devotion and humility. The sacred figures almost seem to come to life, radiating a spiritual beauty that welcomes and comforts the faithful.
