Parish church of S. Antonino in Breccanecca
Probably built in the 13th century, the parish church of S. Antonino di Breccanecca stands on the panorama of the Gulf of Tigullio as a monument to devotion and art.
This monument to devotion and art has been enlarged and restored over the centuries, and today occupies a privileged position offering a spectacular panorama of sea and mountains, capturing the soul of its visitors.
The Majestic Baroque Facade
The baroque façade of the church welcomes the faithful with a large square in front and four pairs of lateral pilasters, which give an aura of majesty and grandeur. Above the main portal, a fresco depicts “S. Anthony on horseback”, a scene of sacred power that inspires reverence and devotion.
A Solemn Interior Rich in History
Crossing the threshold, you are immersed in a solemn atmosphere. The single nave interior is enriched by five 18th century altars, each with its own history and beauty. However, it is the triptych above the choir that captures the attention. This extraordinary work, painted on a panel by Giovanni Cambiaso in the 16th century, depicts the Ascension of Jesus in the center, surrounded by the Apostles and the Madonna. On the left, there is S. Cristoforo, and on the right, S. Antonino martyr. Two small panels complete the work, telling the Angel’s announcement and the Virgin’s acceptance, evoking the mystery of the Incarnation.
The Altar of the Rosary and the Historic Organ
Particularly fascinating is the Rosary altar, the first on the right. Adorned by a 17th century painting portraying the Madonna and Child next to St. Dominic, this altar creates an atmosphere of sacred intimacy. The elegant organ, built in 1778 and placed in the choir loft, adds a touch of harmony and solemnity to the liturgy, making every celebration an unforgettable spiritual experience.
