Oratory of San Martino in Cogorno
Nascosta in un angolo caratteristico del borgo di San Salvatore di Cogorno, si erge la piccola chiesa dell’Oratorio di San Martino, che racchiude in sé secoli di storia e devozione.
Founded with the lofty purpose of assisting the sick and dying, with special attention paid to youth, this brotherhood has roots that date back to at least the 13th century.
Its external structure is modest but suggestive: a single portal, surmounted by a lunette, and a gable roof that stands out against the sky. The bell tower, modest but proud, completes the image of simplicity and devotion.
Inside, the simplicity of the oratory is transformed into a place of contemplation and spirituality. The walls contain treasures of sacred art, with paintings depicting Saints Martin, Agatha and Lucia, surrounded by angels who exalt the presence of the Holy Spirit. Sculptural works, mainly in wood and dating from the 17th to the 20th century, further enrich the atmosphere of sacredness and veneration that pervades this place of worship.
In this secluded corner, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the oratory of the Confraternity of Disciplinanti invites visitors to a pause for reflection and contemplation, offering a spiritual retreat that nourishes the soul and renews faith.
